Mantella Crest

A History of Mantella

In 1946 Anthony Mantella, a construction worker with 20 years experience, had a dream to have his own company. With very little money and a very strong will, he took a chance and built a home for himself. He eventually sold this house and built another one next door. The company was called Acme Home Builders.

In 1954 with the help of his two sons, Paul and Frank, the company became A. Mantella and Sons Limited. By 1958 they had built over 500 homes. A. Mantella and Sons Limited also began building industrial plants on speculation and were successful in selling over 42 of them by 1958, ranging in size from 3,000 square feet to 20,000 square feet.

Today, Mantella Corporation is still one of the largest, privately-owned family development companies in Canada, managing millions of square feet of owned facilities. Mantella continues to be active in the rezoning and site redevelopment of their older facilities, and holds substantial lands for future developments.

In 2008, realizing that the development arena was being monopolized by Real Estate Investment Trusts and Pension Funds, Mantella saw opportunities to diversify. Mantella entered into the technology venture capital and financial markets through the formation of Mantella Venture Partners.

Mantella Venture Partners is a $20 million fund that invests in entrepreneurs who are building early stage mobile and Internet software companies, helping them get their ideas from conception to market.

Chairman’s Message

It all began with one house. When my grandfather, Anthony Mantella, built his first home in Toronto in 1942, he knew he had the seeds for a burgeoning real estate development business: integrity, honesty, expertise, and a desire to expand.

And he passed on these qualities to his two sons, Paul and Frank, so that they too could take part in the success of the business. Within a few short years, my grandfather, father and uncle diversified their business to include vast commercial properties.

It’s that visionary focus on embracing change and investing in the future that has made Mantella Corporation what it is today.

In everything we do, we rely on the qualities that our family has firmly grounded in our business. We build relationships with our clients and partners that are based on a passionate vision for the future, a conscientious, hands-on focus on the present, and a proud and established foundation of more than 50 years in the business.

It’s one of the reasons why, in 2008, we diversified our assets to invest in strong, vibrant Internet software businesses in Ontario through Mantella Venture Partners. Technology and real estate development don’t normally go together. We know, however, that the transformative and game-changing power of technology, combined with our established excellence in real estate development across Ontario, will ensure the Mantella vision continues for future generations.

Our focus on the future also includes giving back to the communities that helped us grow. Through our volunteer efforts and funding of charities that support children, animals and healthcare, we hope to further expand Mantella’s vision for our business, our community, and our world.

We take great pride in the relationships we have built with our clients and partners over the years, and we look forward to continuing that tradition with new, exciting relationships in the years to come.
